I had a lot of fun raising money for Children in Need. What did you do to raise money?
I was sponsored to carry a Pudsey teddy round with me all day and take pictures of his whole day.
I also raised money via a Facebook status. I told my Facebook friends that I would donate 50p on behalf of them for every like the status received. The status had 70 likes so this Friday I will donate £35 on behalf of them and a bit extra from me.
You can still make a donation to Children in Need by clicking here

Company Overview
GLAM Originals was created in December 2004 by Angela Roberts. We are based in Malmesbury in Wiltshire, but Angela the owner is originally from Gowerton on the Gower Pensinsula in Wales.
Being a former IT Project Manager Angela's who took time off to have children. Angela's love of Fashion and Jewellery meant that she started designing Hand knitted Scarves and Handmade jewellery for herself and her friends.
As the response was so great, a localised house party business was quickly built up selling these along with other fabulous Accessories.
As we grew into different areas of the South West, we started designing and making our own range of jewellery, we wanted to make beautiful, affordable pieces of jewellery for women of all ages using Venetian glass beads, fresh-water pearls and semi-precious stones. The beads are sourced from around the world. We love colour and adore mixing colours to create stunning pieces of jewellery.
The Jewellery
We specialise in making lariat necklaces which are so versatile and gorgeous that women love to wear them.
Everyone feels special with a piece of unique, handmade jewellery and so we have grown our range and now have a few local jewellery designers who work with us to create our stunning collection. Take a look at the Jewellery section to see our glamorous jewellery range.
If you dream of a piece of jewellery to be made exactly as you wish for a special outfit, a wedding or another special occasion, we are always happy to take commissions.
Our handmade jewellery range is totally exclusive to us and we do not sell to any shops or other outlets.
Many of the hand crafted designs are unique. Each one is made individually and often no two items are the same. Note if you order a lariat off the website, we will endeavour to match it to the picture as best we can, but is dependent on what beads we have at the time. As each piece is exclusive, we normally take orders for lariats based on colour combinations.
 Other Fab Accessories
To compliment the Handmade Jewellery, we also sell Handbags, Flip-Flops, Shoes, Clothes and other Ladies Fashion Accessories. These are sourced from around the world and we are particularly keen to buy from suppliers where the items are ethically made.
 Today
Glam Originals is now a thriving business with party consultants throughout the South West of England. We primarily do Ladies House Parties or Coffee Mornings, but we have also done bigger events like Badminton Horse Trials, Beaufort Polo Club Country Fayre, Sherston Boules and are planning to do Cheltenham Gift and Fashion Fayre this year.
 The Parties!
When invited, we come and open a boutique in your house and allow customers to take the goods away with them on the night. You will be pleasantly surprised at the variety and volume of our stock!
If you are interested in finding out more about the parties then please click here.
We are also starting to work in conjunction with a number of Colour and Style Advisers and provide jewellery for the individual colour pallets (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, Warm, Cool etc.). We have done a number of successful Fashion Shows for Breast Cancer.

How Domestic Violence Affects Children.. #YouthStories

Last night a close friend asked me a very personal question to help with her uni work. She asked me- "how domestic violence had affected me from childhood up until my adult life"?
No one has ever asked me that before so I found it quite interesting. I answered and then I spent the whole night thinking about it and thinking, I am the founder of The Youth Life Project

, a charity that runs the campaign #YouthStories. I encourage young people to tell their stories, share their experiences of violence, bullying abuse etc., and yet I have experienced some of these things as a youth and have never spoken out about it. How can I expect and encourage people to write about their experiences when I have not done the same?

So I've made a decision. I am going to publish my answer to that question.
I'm not going to write a whole story about things that have happened to me as a child, I am just going to publish my answer to the question- 'how has domestic violence affected you'?

I'll admit that I'm feeling very anxious about it. What sort of reaction would it provoke? Most people I know wouldn't have a clue about my childhood, my family may not want me to talk openly about my mother experiencing domestic violence, (I have asked for her permission before I've gone ahead with this). It may come across attention seeking or even that I'm emotional. The worse affect would be if people felt sorry for me. Anyone that's friends with me would know I'd hate that.
I'm thinking, even if all that negativity did come of it, I'm sure maybe some positive would to?
If not at least I have done what I am encouraging others to do and tell their story (or an answer to a question in my case).

so here goes..

My answer-
"As a child, domestic violence affects you in many ways. I feel It affects your confidence mostly and weakens you as a person. It makes you feel insecure because as a child your mum is the strongest person in the world, your mum is an idol. So to see her being slowly broken down as a person, and demoralised, beaten, mentally abused on a daily basis, as a child you feel the affects of that too because in your eyes your mum is stronger than you and to see her go from a lively bubbly confident person to a weak, scared, emotional insecure person, you kind of feel the same too. Most children mimic the people they love, and are in tune with their emotions so their feelings have kind of a rebound affect on you. It also rocks your confidence and affects the way you socialise with people because its harder to interact or form relationships with other children when you're hiding a big secret and carrying loads of things emotionally. You can't be yourself, and you don't trust many people and sometimes envy other families.
As you get older and are in adolescence, its a crazy time. I felt angry at the world and just wanted to rebel. My mum left her abusive partner when I was a teen (14) so I felt a freedom that now I could finally do what I want because we're not controlled anymore, but I took that too far and went off the rails. I also got into a lot of fights with men and was easily provoked because as soon as a male made me feel intimidated or scared in an argument or fight I would lash out and would not stop until I had gotten the better of them, and worse of all was that it made me feel good.

Later on in adult life, there are positives because it makes you a stronger person and a better parent in the sense you know you will never let any harm come to your children, you'll never let them have any sort of life you have had. You treat people better and are more caring because of what you've seen as a child and I always make sure I tell my friends when they look good and are doing good because I want them to feel confident and never insecure like we was made to feel.
The negative for me though is that I find it hard to keep a relationship because as soon as someone does me wrong I take it really hard and personal and feel like I have to exit the relationship because I won't have my children put through any arguing etc., Where in fact I probably should try harder to work at it. I think I just get really scared I'm going to be like my mum and I've grown up striving to be the opposite (my mum's a legend. I mean be opposite as in not allow anyone to treat me or my children bad).

Domestic violence has affected me emotionally and mostly with trust issues but it has made me a stronger person, a better parent and I do find it easier to have empathy for adults or children experiencing the same. It's also made me very protective of the people I care about and I have really good morals that I always stand by.

As a child I also experienced many other forms of abuse, so maybe my experience of domestic violence may not be the same as others because I experienced other things alongside it.
So now I'm asking- How has it affected YOU?

If you have experienced domestic violence and would too would like to join in the #YouthStories campaign and publish your real life experience of how abuse, domestic violence, sexual abuse, bullying, rape, obesity, illness or poverty has affected you as a child or teen and may still affect you in adult life. Please email danielletylp@gmail.com  with your story, and suitable ones will be published to the blog. By doing this you are encouraging others to speak up and you are letting people that have been affected by any of the above know they are not alone.

The most important point I must make is that yes, my childhood was bad but I've gone on to have 2 amazing children who are raised beautifully in a loving home full of fun and happiness, I run a wonderful charity and use my bad experiences to help others, I have amazing friends and family and I consider my life to be pretty awesome and definitely full of lots of love and positivity.
The point being- Never let your past rule your future and never let the bad people win!

Britain set to have wettest summer in 100 years!

New statistics from the Met Office show that 2012 is set to be the second wettest summer since records began.
Summer officially ends at the start of September but so far the rainfall for the past three months has been the heaviest for 100 years.
Figures up until 29 August show that 366.8 mm of rain fell across the UK this summer making it the wettest summer since 1912!
The Met Office said this summer is also likely to be one of the dullest on record with just 399 hours of sunshine up to August 28. This would make it the least sunny  since 1980 when there were 396 hours of sunshine.
Of the three summer months, August looks set to be the driest and sunniest across the UK with 105.5mm (4.15in) of rain to August 29, according to the Met Office.
The UK's second wettest summer since 1912 was in 2007 when 357.8mm (14.09in) of rain fell

Thoughts and facts on bullying

Bullying is something which most of us have experienced or seen in our lives. It's sad to think that a lot of people who are bullied, often retreat into their own worlds and are too ashamed to reach out for help, and are often too scared to trust anyone. It's even more disheartening to know that bullying can drive some people to suicide! -That right there is the seriousness of it all, BULLYING KILLS! "Bullied children are 6 times more likely to contemplate suicide than their non-bullied counterparts"As a parent I understand that myself, along with school teachers, are the biggest influence in my children's lives. With my help and guidance my children learn to live and understand life in general, my children rely on me for security and they know they can turn to me to confide in. "18% of children and young people who worried about bullying said they would not talk to their parents about it".

My daughter aged 8, is bubbly, bright, confident, cheeky and full of life, but throughout most of last year [2011] this was not the case. She suffered at the hands of a bully in her school class and the confident young girl we know was now quiet, withdrawn, emotional and insecure. As a parent, all you want is for your children to be happy and most of all to be safe. She doesn't know it, but I cried for her on many occasions. "Almost half (46%) of children and young people say they have been bullied at school at some point in their lives" Even when myself along with her school worked hard and put a stop to the bullying, and built her confidence back up, she still wasn't the same girl she always was. This is because she felt intimidated by the other girl. It was only when the girl in question moved schools, that my daughter got her spark back and is now the ever loving cheeky little girl that everyone loves. But how would she be today if the girl had not have left that school?
This is my point.. It is not always enough to just intervene and stop the bullying itself from happening. It is not always enough to help the victim in feeling safe, secure and confident. When all that is done, the bully is still a bully, being told no and being watched closely doesn't always change a big deal. We need to find out why they bully, we need to go deeper into the situation to prevent it ever happening again and furthermore we need to then assure the victim of the changes made and assure them it wont be happening again. If we can change their mentality and install remorse then this will play a big part in prevention.
I know that this method does take place, but in my opinion it should happen with every situation and not just the serious ones. Here at TYLP we believe that early intervention is the best prevention. We shouldn't wait for a situation to become extreme before we take the biggest actions. As I stated earlier... BULLYING KILLS. "Each year 10-14 youth suicides are directly attributed to bullying"

STOP BULLYING NOW!!

The facts about bullying!
  • 38% of young people have been affected by cyber-bullying.
  • 30,439 children called ChildLine in 2010/11 about bullying.
  • 38% of disabled children worried about being bullied.
  • Almost half (46%) of children and young people say they have been bullied at school at some point in their lives.
  • 18% of children and young people who worried about bullying said they would not talk to their parents about it.
  • 30,439 children called ChildLine in 2010/11 (11% of calls) about bullying.
  • Between 1 April 2010 to 31 March 2011 ChildLine carried out 30,439 counselling interactions with a primary concern of bullying. This represents 11% of the total counselling interactions undertaken during that period.
  • Bullying was the main reason that boys called ChildLine.
  • Two thirds (65%) of lesbian, gay and bisexual young people have experienced homophobic bullying at school.Between 8% and 34% of children and young people in the UK have been cyberbullied, and girls are twice as likely to experience persistent cyberbullying than boys.
  • 38% of young people have been affected by cyber-bullying, with abusive emails (26%) and text messages (24%) being the most common methods.
  • 28% of children did not tell anyone about the abuse.
  • Each year 10-14 youth suicides are directly attributed to bullying (The Home Office)
Bullied children are 6 times more likely to contemplate suicide than their non-bullied counterparts
A survey of pupils in England estimates that 16,493 young people aged 11-15 (4.4%) are frequently absent from state school or home educated because of bullying.

THE LAW
No matter how bad bullying can seem, many incidents of bullying are not actually crimes, and therefore might not be a matter for the police. The best people to deal with them are parents, teachers or other responsible adults.
But some types of bullying are illegal and should be reported to the police.

violence or assault
theft
harassment and intimidation over a period of time including calling someone names or threatening them, making abusive phone calls, and sending abusive emails or text messages (one incident is not normally enough to get a conviction)
anything involving hate crimes .

Body Image Awareness!

Here at The Youth Life Project, we're on point and up to date with the latest fashion trends, but that's not all that we're about. As a charity that represent young people, we understand and emphasise with the issues that face every person. Especially the young.
Here at TYLP we want to stress that it's important for people to remember that the models and actors you idolise starve themselves, punish themselves with extreme workouts and endure surgery to look the way they do! You need to build a positive relationship with your body. Your body is the most valuable asset you will ever own. "Studies have shown that when people participate in even moderate exercise, such as walking, they feel more connected and better about their bodies".
Learn to appreciate your body for what it can do, not for what it looks like. Maybe even make a list of those things you like about your body. A list of your traits that you really like. Think about the people you admire and look up to. You admire these individuals because of who they are, not because of what they look like. After all "you cant judge a book by it's cover".

I think we're all guilty of feeding into the ridiculous nature of the media’s portrayal of body image. As beautiful as these celebrities are in real life, most of the images you See of them are not real. The images below demonstrate this.

I wont harp on too much about what you should and shouldn't do to feel good about yourself, but I will provide you some shocking statistics about body image, and some of my favourite body image quotes and images.

If everyone looked exactly the same, life would be boring. Be unique, be you and be proud! -TYLP

 Body image statistics
In 1970 the average age a girl started dieting was fourteen; by 1990 the average age dropped to eight.
  • One half of 4th grade girls are on a diet.
  • 51% of nine and ten year old girls stated they felt better about themselves when they were adhering to a diet.
  • Frequent dieting is highly correlated with depression.
  • While only one out of ten high school girls are overweight, nine out of ten high school juniors and seniors diet.
  • 81% of ten year old girls are afraid of being fat.
  • A study found that adolescent girls were more fearful of gaining weight, than getting cancer, nuclear war or losing their parents.
  • A study asked children to assign attractiveness values to pictures of children with various disabilities. The participants rated the obese child less attractive than a child in a wheelchair, a child with a facial deformity, and a child with a missing limb.
  • 95% of individuals who diet as opposed to those who follow a healthy food plan will gain their lost weight back in one to five years.
  • A University of Central Florida study of three to six year old girls found that nearly half were already worried about being fat.
  • In general poor body image is one of the first eating disorders symptoms often displayed
  • One out of every four television commercials sends out some sort of message about attractiveness.
  • One study documented that viewing music videos featuring thin women led to an increase in body dissatisfaction.
  • 80% of women who answered a People magazine survey responded that images of women on television and in the movies make them feel insecure.
  • Actresses Julia Roberts Cameron Diaz and singer Diana Ross all meet the Body Mass Index physical criteria for Anorexia.
  • 79% of teenage girls who vomit and 73% of teenage girls who use diet pills are frequent readers of women’s health and fitness magazines. This is in contrast to less than 43% of teenage girls who do not participate in these purging methods.
  • Body image dissatisfaction and eating disorders are more prevalent among females than males.
  • Model/Actress Elizabeth Hurley stated in Allure magazine “I’ve always thought Marilyn Monroe looked fabulous, but I’d kill myself if I was that fat.”
  • Pamela Anderson is 5’7” and weights 120 pounds. She is supposed to be the voluptuous ideal yet she is 11% below ideal body weight. In contrast, a generation ago Marilyn Monroe set the beauty standard at 5’5” and weighed 135 pounds. Today her agent would probably tell her she had to lose weight!
  • Women and girls are also consistently taught from an early age that their self-worth is largely dependent on how they look. The fact that women earn more money than men in only two job categories, those of modelling and prostitution serves to illustrate this point (Wolf, 1992).
  • #YouthStories The Affects of Cyber Bullying.

As part of our 'Youth Stories' campaign, we will be posting real life testimonials from youths that have suffered at the hands of bullies, fallen victim to knife crime, street crime, abuse etc.
The first story in are series features a testimonial from TYLP's trustee Carney Bonner, written in his own words to raise awareness on cyber bullying.

    Carney
I’m Carney Bonner and I run a charity called is called ‘Keeping it Safe Online’. Which is part of my charity called The Carney Charles Foundation I want to tell you my story about how Cyber Bullying affected me.
I am a friend, a best friend, a brother and a son. When I was 14 I fell victim to one of the worse possible form of bullying-cyber bullying and it is something that can affect everyone
I spent a year of my life being bullied, it knocked my self confidence.
I became quiet and never spoke to anyone.
I didn’t know who to turn or what to do
When people are telling you – you are nothing – you should die – no one wants you around –
    You feel responsible
I started to self harm because I had people saying to me that I was nothing and I should kill myself.
I’m not looking for people to feel sorry for me. I made a come-back ,  I told a school councillor. She helped me re build my self esteem- and now I want to help others who are going through the same.
That is why I started my campaign
    What is cyber bullying
The latest figures from Beatbullying show that nearly one-in-three 11-16 year olds has been targeted, threatened or humiliated on their mobile phone or the internet.
This means- it can happen to anyone,  but what does Cyber Bullying actually mean?
Cyber bullying can be texting someone a horrible text, sending abuse on Msn, or taunting people on Facebook.
people who do this may think it’s a bit of harmless fun but it actually destroys lives.
Keeping it safe online is trying to stop the problems of cyber bullying and make a stand together to show people that cyber bullying is not acceptable.
Bullying is bullying at the end of the day and just because people can't see their victim doesn't mean that it doesn’t hurt.
So what should you do if someone is bullying you online
    First Take Action
Second ‘Report, Don’t retaliate’- it will only encourage the bully
    How to Report bullying
You can report bullying online and in the real world.
I felt embarrassed about being the victim of bullying- but shouldn’t have. It can happen to anybody. In the end I turned to a school councillor who helped me, but you can turn to anyone that you trust, mum and dad, guardians, youth workers, teachers, older brothers or sisters.
I’ve put the ‘report’ links below for Facebook, twitter, msn, Bebo, youtube,

There are also places to go online for help. Beat bullying run a cyber mentors scheme. They’ve got  trained Cyber mentors online between 7.30 am til late. So there is always someone you can talk to.

    Check out

Finally You can ‘Block the bullies’, and always make sure you keep the evidence
For example on facebook you can block anyone that you don’t want to contact you.
If you are receiving emails or messages. Don’t Delete them, move them to a separate folder as evidence and better still print them out.
Also always make sure your details are on private-that way no-one can reach you or contact you. If you don’t want them to.
It is well worth your while spending some time doing this.
    Keep it safe online
You can also contact me and my team and we can remind of anything you need to know,
Go to my battlefront page battlefront.co.uk/carney and you LIKE the facebook, follow me on twitter and Subscribe to my youtube to keep up to date and in contact. Or email us on keepingitsafeonline@gmail.com
I didn’t know what to do or who to turn to when I was being cyber bullied. And for a time it ruined my life but I got help but now I feel stronger.
I want to help others who are going through what I went through. Together we can Keep it safe online.
